The Sagamore Conference released their spring all-conference teams earlier this week with several nominees for Montgomery County athletes.
Baseball
Crawfordsville, who finished second with an 11-3 record in league play, was represented by seniors Caleb Coons and Andrew Martin and junior Austin Motz.
Motz was fourth in the Sagamore with a .387 batting average, totaling 11 extra-base-hits. He was second in runs scored with 30, and third in RBIs with 22. Coons hit .305, while Martin batted .337 and scored 22 runs.
North Montgomery, who finished 7-7, was represented by freshman Jarrod Kirsch and senior Jacob Braun.
Braun was 11th in the SAC with a .350 batting average and drove in 16 runs. Kirsch hit .301 and was 10th in ERA with a mark of 2.28. He was also second in wins with seven and fifth with 67 strikeouts.
Lebanon was the outright conference champion and highlighted by Garrett Harker’s all-conference selection. The senior led the league in several categories. Harker had 111 strikeouts pitching with an 8-0 record and .67 ERA. He also hit .533 with five home runs, 36 runs scored and was second with 24 RBI.
Other first-team selections included Lebanon’s Brayton Bowen and Logan Elsbury, Danville’s Caden Whitehead, Jacob Comer, Wesley Wright, and Tony Ramirez, Tri-West’s Riley Bennett and Gavin Lengacher, and Frankfort’s Conner Boone and Jose Lopez.
Crawfordsville freshman Kale Wemer and sophomore Cale Coursey made the second-team with North Montgomery juniors Jakob Kirsch and Brayden Martin and Southmont sophomores Nick Scott and Chayce Howell.
Softball
Montgomery County was represented on the first-team all-conference by a trio of hitters who all ranked in the top-five in the Sagamore for batting average.
Southmont junior Macie Shirk, who was also named second-team all-state for Class 1A/2A, was second in the Sagamore with a .534 batting average, had 15 extra-base-hits, and drove in 27 runs. Pitching, Shirk posted a 4.27 ERA, had the third-most strikeouts in the SAC with 141 and led the league with 14 wins.
Crawfordsville junior Olivia Reed was fifth in the SAC with a .512 batting average and had three triples.
North Montgomery senior Makinze Rominger hit .528 with 38 hits in only 72 at-bats. She also had 12 extra-base-hits.
Tri-West (13-1) and Danville (13-1) finished one-two in the SAC standings and flooded the all-conference selection.
Danville was represented by Ella Brinkley, Savannah Jones, Abby Yarnell, and Adriana Taylor, while Tri-West put Audrey Lowery, Ava Sullivan, McKenzie Watlers, and Maddy Dickerson on the first-team with Lebanon’s Josie Hollinsworth, Frankfort’s Zoey Westerman and Karim Quinones and Western Boone’s Hanna Redlin and Emily Conyer.
Crawfordsville senior Allyson Barton and sophomore Halle Elliott joined North Montgomery sophomore Cascie Keller and junior Mallory Morehouse and Southmont seniors Natalie Manion and Marissa Craig on the second-team.
Girls Tennis
Lebanon won the outright girls’ tennis Sagamore Conference champion and had five first-team selections.
No. 1 singles Jessica Lehmkuhler, No. 2 Ava Lemkuhler, No. 3 Molly Barber, and undefeated doubles team Michelle Horvat and Irene Ransom.
Crawfordsville was represented on the first-team by No. 1 singles player senior Lauren Hale and fellow senior and No. 2 Hannah McLean. They joined North Montgomery ace and senior Kaitlyn Greenlee and Southmont senior No. 1 Mallory Murphy.
Also on the first-team is Western Boone’s Lindsey Coffman, Katelyn Jahn, and Marli Ransom.
Crawfordsville freshman Samantha Rohr, North Montgomery junior Sydnee Turner and senior Joy Davis joined Southmont freshman Hanna Long and senior Megan Scheidler on the second-team.
Track & Field
First-place finishers at the Sagamore Conference track and field meet in May earned all-conference honors.
That included Southmont junior Trent Jones, who won the 100, 200, 400, and long jump and senior Dillan Lauy, who won the pole vault. Brianna Heninger joined her Mountie teammates with a win in the pole vault as did junior Faith Allen by winning the mile.
Crawfordsville foursome Ian Hensley, Ryan Miller, Hunter Hutchison, and Tyeson Fuller won the boys’ 4X800 meter relay, while Hutchison also won the 800 meter run and senior Ty Lynas won the 110 hurdles. Senior Nate Schroeter won the discus.
North Montgomery’s lone first-team all-conference selection was senior Sidney Campbell, who won the 100 hurdles.
Boys Golf
The top-10 finishers at the Sagamore Conference golf meet at Rocky Ridge in May earned first-team all-conference.
Southmont senior Micah Korhorn was the meet medalist with a 78, while sophomore Nolan Allen (85) and Crawfordsville junior Luke Ranard (87) also made the first-team.
Crawfordsville’s Landon Timmons, Southmont’s Harrison Haddock, and North Montgomery’s Hayden Turner and Haze Kashon each made second-team.
