Stephen “Bud” Hutchens II, along with his canine companion Bogart, passed away Thursday afternoon, Dec. 12, 2024, in a tragic accident on Interstate 74. Bogart went everywhere with Bud so it was fitting for them to be together in death.

Bud owned his own business as a mechanic, Backyard Auto on U.S. 231, north of Crawfordsville. He enjoyed anything car related, especially hot rods. He was a people person and a good talker that had a natural charisma and made him easy to like. He graduated from North Montgomery in 1999 and Lincoln Tech before starting his career.

Born Sept. 5, 1981, in Crawfordsville, he was the son of Stephen Samuel Hutchens and Becky Gunderman. He married Rebekah Radcliff on July 9, 2011. She survives.

He was loved and will be missed by his surviving family which includes: wife Rebekah Hutchens; daughter Kearston Hutchens; mother Becky Gunderman; father and his wife, Stephen and Brenda Hutchens; two sisters, Bethany Cooper, with husband Chris, and Briana Woodall, with husband, Cory; grandma Betty Gunderman; nieces and nephews, Ryan, Rylee, Tacie, Aubrie, Gage, Jocelyn and Lincoln; along with many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by a nephew, Reese Cooper; his paternal grandparents, Sheldon and Kathryn Hutchens; aunt Barbara and cousin Leanne.

A gathering to remember Bud and Bogart will be held Thursday, Dec. 19 at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W. Wabash Ave., from 3 to 5 p.m. A memorial service will begin at 5 p.m. with Pastor Terry Thompson officiating.
