Stephen Kay Lichtenwalter, 82, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 10, 2021, at home, surrounded by his family.

He was born Aug. 12, 1938, at Shelbyville, Illinois, to William Donavon and Milldred Ann (Mote.)

He married the girl next door: his best friend and the love of his life, Carolyn Sue Peterman, on Aug. 29, 1959m at Hammond, Indiana. They moved to Crawfordsville in 1961 where he began working for RR Donnelly and Sons. He retired in 1996 after 35 years of service.

Steve enjoyed being outdoors: camping, canoeing, fishing and playing in Sugar Creek, woodworking in his garage, playing board games and cards and reading. No matter where he went, he always had a joke and a story to tell. He never met a stranger. He was a dedicated and loving family man, and one of the greatest joys in his life was being Grandpa and Great-Grandpa.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; three brother:  and two sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn, and their four children, Mike (Molly) of New Market, Mark of Lafayette, Matt (Sarah) of Crawfordsville, and Michelle (Craig) of Wingate. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Michael (Jaci), Elizabeth (James), Evelyn, Stephen, Gabrielle (Nick) and Ryan; four great-grandchildren; two four-legged friends; and many friends and extended family members.

Steve chose to be cremated and a private celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in honor of Steve to one of his favorite organizations, The Wounded Warrior Project.
