Stockdale opens Harry’s Hideout downtown

Posted

Chris Stockdale opened Harry’s Hideout at 101 E. Main St. last month.

The full service restaurant and bar located in downtown Crawfordsville was conceived as a 1930s Chicago speakeasy.

Stockdale said Harry’s is a place to get away and still feel like home while enjoying delicious, high-quality entrees, having a beer and wathching a Cubs game.

Stockdale is no stranger to the restaurant business. He founded Mighty Dogs Cafe in 2010 in Crawfordsville. In 2013, he opened an updated version with farm to table ingredients and weekly from scratch comfort food menu items in the downtown district of Austin, Texas. Voted “Best Dogs in Austin” and receiving high praise for their from-scratch Jalapeno Ranch and Sweet red cabbage slaw, Mighty Dogs and Bistro received many awards and recognition.

Stockdale said the unique location, an old flophouse near the historical railroad tracks in downtoan Austin’s west side, soon became compromised as adjacent property owners sold their parcels of land to investment groups seeking to expand high-rise builds. The business closed three years later.

Earlier this year, following the unexpected death of his wife, Stockdale decided to return to his hometown of Crawfordsville with his two-year-old son Achilles.

Harry’s Hideout is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday; noon to 6 p.m. Saturday; and 4:30-9 p.m. Sunday.
