Students in Brittany Shannon’s young fives class at Turkey Run Elementary worked on the letter S recently. During the week, they read different versions of the folklore story, “Stone Soup.” Students compared and contrasted the stories and for a wrap up on Friday they made Stone Soup. Students brought in vegetables to add to the soup and each student was able to chop up their vegetables and dump them in. Students have also been learning about communities and neighbors so Lori Bowles’ class was invited to share the Stone Soup. Like the communities in the story they all sat down and had a feast. Even though the Stone Soup wasn’t as well loved by the young fives classes as it was by the villagers in the book it was still a fun learning opportunity.
