The General Lew Wallace Study & Museum will host ArchiCamp on June 14-15 in partnership with Indiana Landmarks. The two-day camp is open to students ages 8-12.
ArchiCamp is an architecture-based camp that uses historic architecture to educate and excite children about local history and instills stewardship and responsibility for our cultural heritage. During the camp, students will learn about Crawfordsville’s architectural heritage, including the historic Study building.
During the two days of camp, students will have the opportunity to explore parts of the Study building and Carriage House, take a walking tour of Elston’s Grove, create a local building from recycled materials and create miniature stained glass “windows.” Other activities include visiting Crawfordsville sites such as the Athena Center and the Masonic Lodge, creating a plaster brick, speaking with a local archaeologist about careers in historic preservation, and learning about bridges.
Snacks will be provided each day, but campers should bring a sack lunch. Camp is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The camp costs $25 and scholarships are available. Registration forms are available online at www.ben-hur.com/programs/archicamp/ or may be picked up at the Carriage House Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
