Dusk to Dawn

Summer Fun & Fitness event slated for June 17

Posted

Dusk to Dawn continues celebrating 10 years of nonprofit work in the community with our Summer Fun & Fitness event on June 17. The event boasts a variety of family friendly activities. Our day will kick off at 8 a.m. with our inaugural Fun Run/Walk along the beautiful Sugar Creek Trail. To participate in the run/walk, we ask you to register online at https://runsignup.com/Race/IN/Crawfordsville/D2DSFF. Participants can also register until 7:30 a.m. the day of the event at 300 W. South Blvd. There is a $20 fee for the run/walk. Those registering by today  will receive one of our 10th anniversary commemorative T-shirts. After that date, T-shirts will be as supplies last. Top finishers will receive gift certificates from local merchants.

After our morning walk/run, a number of other activities will take place 9 a.m. to noon and are all free and open to the public to drop in as desired. Activities include a meet and greet with our Crawfordsville firefighters, where we can learn some fire safety tips and tour the fire engine. The Home for Friendless Animals will be onsite with pets available for interaction. Pets looking for a forever home are waiting for their family to start the adoption process. Then you can take a stroll out to the Seeds of Hope Community Garden where you can get your hands dirty with an interactive experience in gardening. Last year the garden raised over 1,000 pounds of fresh produce to help feed those in our community who struggle with food insecurity.

Be sure to come inside where you can enjoy a relaxing 10-minute morning stretch with yoga instructors Kim Green of Quest for Balance Wellness and Tanya Snell Milano of Find Om in Mom. You can also stop by to help the Knots of Love Quilters tie knots to ship quilts to third world countries around the world. Last year they sent over 200 quilts to those who found themselves homeless as a result of disaster, famine, war or persecution. The Versiti Blood Bank will be onsite for those wishing to donate blood and save the life of another. Those wanting to donate blood are welcome to walk-in, but if you’d like to schedule a specified time, go to https://donate.indiana.versiti.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/158462.

Finally, a scavenger hunt will entice kids to visit all of the various activities offered throughout the day. Prizes and coupons for free ice cream will be awarded to any youngster completing the scavenger hunt.

“At Dusk to Dawn we work to restore wellness in the lives of others. This event is our way of giving back by promoting family-friendly activities to enhance wellbeing of ourselves, our community, and our world,” said Cheryl Fuhrmann, founder of Dusk to Dawn.
