Local swimmers participated Thursday in the Sagamore Athletic Conference preliminary races to set up today’s competition for finals.
The preliminaries, which do not include relay races or diving, consists of eight events. Results determine seeding in today’s consolation and championship races.
Montgomery County schools will be represented in all eight individual events, relays and diving with high expectations.
After the preliminaries, Crawfordsville will be represented by 12 girls in eight races and six boys in six races. North Montgomery will be represented by eight girls in eight events and four boys in five individual races. Southmont will be represented by two girls in two races and two boys in four races.
Each school will compete in the relay races.
Crawfordsville had several swimmers earn the No. 1 seed. For the girls are Guinevere Torbert-Schmitzer (200 IM and 100 breast), Sophia Melevage (100 fly) and Marie Hesler (500 free).
North Montgomery girls with the top seeds are Kylie Sankey (200 free and 100 free) and Dusty Robinson (100 back). For the boys, Marshall Templeman (200 IM and 100 breast).
The diving competition begins at 8:30 a.m. and swimming starts at 1:30 p.m. at Crawfordsville High School.
