Tad Robinson Band to perform

Posted

The internationally known Tad Robinson Band will close out the 2024 free Concerts on the Corner at 3 p.m. Sunday at Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church, 307 S. Washington St.

Robinson is a Severn Records recording artist who tours widely in the US and performs at some of the most important international blues festivals. Downbeat Magazine says, “Just a few manage to perfect the art of soul-blues singing. Robinson is one of them.”

Living Blues Magazine comments, “Robinson’s lyrics go for the soul, and his old-school balladry is lovely and lush…a soulfulness plucked out of the anywhere airwaves of decades past.”

With harmonica chops influenced by Sonny Boy Williamson and Junior Parker and a vocal style inspired by Otis Redding, Syl Johnson and Al Green, among others, Robinson ranks as a unique and one of the most talented bandleaders in the international blues and soul communities. From his New York City roots and his Indiana and Chicago musical upbringing Robinson enjoys a local following and is a favorite at the Greencastle Summer Music Festival.

Alan White, Wabash Avenue Church pianist, will open the Robinson concert. White, a performing artist and instructor, teaches many local youth and adults in the community.

Wabash Avenue Church is excited to welcome Robinson and continue to celebrate its 200th anniversary with this gift to the community.

A church spokesperson said the mission of the concerts is to spread God’s love through the joy of music. The concerts have been well attended and a free-will offering will be collected for the FISH Food Pantry.

Plans are in place to continue the series in 2025 and the committee welcomes ideas of performers that would bring a variety of quality music and widespread interest to the Montgomery County community. All are welcome. Comments and questions can be directed to wapc@att.net.
