Get ready to embark on a magical journey under the sea as the Sugar Creek Players present The Little Mermaid Jr. at the Vanity Theater, 122 S. Washington St.

Directed by local educators Correna and Laurie Vellner, this production promises to transport audiences beneath the waves, where love, courage and dreams come to life.

Running today through Sunday and Feb. 14-16, this show features 70 students from all three county schools, along with several homeschool students, uniting to deliver a heartfelt performance.

Evening performance are at 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday and a matinee takes place at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

The magic is heightened by musical direction from Jennie Swick and choreography by Steve and Glenda Frees. The stage will be transformed into a vibrant underwater world by tech producer Mike Melvin and his talented crew, with stunning animated background projections making their debut on the Vanity stage.

At the heart of the tale is Hailey Sarver, a Crawfordsville Middle School eighth-grader, who brings the curious and brave Ariel to life. Sarver’s performance will captivate audiences as Ariel dreams of a life on land, determined to follow her heart. Alongside her, Shaeleigh Hreskowsky shines as the mesmerizing yet sinister Ursula, and Joel Conde charms as the dashing Prince Eric. Together, this trio of characters will leave audiences spellbound.

“Community theater serves an important role in connecting students across the three corporations, allowing them to share their unique talents and bring a story to life,” said director Correna Vellner shares. “Personally, I continue to do theater in memory of my own high school theater director, Richard Trueblood. I hope his legacy continues to live on through the magic we bring to the stage.”

Producer Erin Hreskowsky has worked tirelessly to bring this magical production to life, with generous support from sponsor Lakeside Publishing and special gifts from Nucor, ensuring that this show will truly shine.

As a special keepsake, audience members can purchase light-up seashells and tridents to take home as sparkling reminders of this unforgettable adventure.
