HILLSBORO — Myers Dinner Theatre is excited to open its 2023 main stage season with the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, The Sound of Music.

This touching and inspirational musical will open Friday, with seating for dinner at 6 p.m. ET and the meal at 6:30 p.m. This classic, directed by Dion Stover, will run through March 11.

The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do Re Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, “The Sound of Music” won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars.

The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.

This musical will feature MDT alumni Ruthie Sangster, Kristina Swearingen, Don Hart, Teresa Ross, Tyler Bowlin, DRae Beller, Emery Allen, Eli Miller, Kinley Barney and TJ Bird. Making their MDT debut are Caleb DeWitt, Thomas Smith, Anne Miranda, Misty McGrady, Hannah Bergman, Charlie L Chalmers, Greta Shambarger, Adelaide Klinger, Daniel Lee Hollander and Malcom Claeys.

The Sound of Music opens Friday and runs through March 11, with weekday matinee seating for meals at 11:30 a.m. and curtain at 1:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday evening performances will have seating for meals at 6 p.m. with curtain at 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday matinees will have seating for meals at noon and curtain at 2 p.m. Tickets may be purchased by phone at 765-798-4902, ext. 2, or by visiting the MDT website at www.myersdt.com/.
