WAVELAND — A 13-year-old Waveland boy died following a multi-vehicle crash that left three others injured Sunday near Browns Valley.

Andrew Thompson was taken by ambulance to Franciscan Health Crawfordsville, where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to Indiana State Police.

Thompson was a seventh grader at Southmont Jr. High School, where additional counseling was available to students and staff Monday.

“Our condolences and prayers go out to Andrew’s family and friends, as they go through this unimaginable time,” a statement from the district read.

The three-vehicle crash happened just before 8:45 p.m. on State Road 47 near C.R. 700S, said Trooper Corey Brown, state police public information officer.

Investigators determined that a southbound Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Keith Brock, 69, Waveland, struck two vehicles on the shoulder near the intersection with 700S. One of the vehicles was disabled, Brown said.

Brown said authorities didn’t know what caused the crash.

Blake High, 29, Waveland, and Donald Peters, 39, Crawfordsville, were struck while standing outside of the vehicles, according to police. They were both taken by ambulance to Franciscan Health and later flown by medical helicopter to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, police said.

High and Peters were no longer listed as patients on Monday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

A third person inside the disabled vehicle was not injured, Brown said. Police did not release the person’s name.

State police reconstructed the crash, Brown said. The highway remained closed for about three hours Sunday night.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Crawfordsville Fire/EMS Department, Waveland and New Market Fire Departments, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office and Froedge’s Towing assisted at the scene.
