Thomas R. Shaver, born Jan. 5, 1941, a passionate farmer, entrepreneur, and Boilermaker, passed away Dec. 14, 2024. He was 83 years old.

Born and raised in Crawfordsville, Tom was a proud alumnus of Purdue University, where he earned a bachelor’s of science degree in agriculture economics and proudly played trombone in the renowned Purdue Marching Band.

Following his graduation, Tom and his beloved wife, Joy, who he fondly referred to as Duck, embarked on a journey that would define their lives. In their garage, they began a small venture repairing outboard boat motors, which eventually blossomed into the successful Tom’s Marine Sales. Tom’s passion for customer service and his ability to build lasting friendships were the cornerstones of his business.

However, Tom’s true love was farming. Each year, he eagerly anticipated the spring planting season. In his retirement, he continued to share his love for agriculture with his son Ken, restoring antique tractors and participating in antique tractor drives.

Tom’s presence was a constant at the Ironman Raceway events, especially the GNCC race, a tradition that began in 1995. He looked forward to the annual events, relishing the opportunity to reunite with his “race family.” His warm smile made him a familiar and beloved figure at the races.

Tom was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Joy (Duck) Shaver; his parents, Joseph (Noel) and Mary Shaver; and his brother, Jim (Madeline) Shaver.

He is survived by his children, Ken (Lori) Shaver and Jill Shaver; and his grandchildren, Sam (Maddie) Shaver and Holly Shaver.

A private service we be held and a public celebration will be announced at a later date.
