The total cost of the Montgomery County Annex project rings in at $5.5 million.

Project manager Envoy Construction Services presented the annex’s final budget Monday after spending weeks crunching the last numbers. The budget was approved by the Board of Commissioners.

Commissioners had voiced frustration in the delay of finalizing a spending plan for the project to renovate the former Williamsburg Health Care Facility on Lafayette Road into county offices and government meeting speech.

Demolition was allowed to proceed to keep the project on schedule. Construction is expected to take five months.

The budget matches the total amount allowed for all project costs. More than $157,000 is currently left over that can be used for other items outside the project’s scope.

The project calls for minor roof repairs and installing a new sprinkler system in the former long-term care facility, which closed in 2019.

In addition, crews will perform minor parking lot repairs, replace the sidewalk, demolish a mini-barn and do minor landscape improvements.

The project is being completed under a build-operate-transfer agreement, where Envoy will hand ownership of the annex to the county after renovations are complete.

In other business, the board:

• Awarded the Jim Davis and C.R. 500N bridge projects to CLR Inc. of Vincennes. The bid amounts were $405,430.10 for Davis and $364,308.75 for 500N. CLR submitted the lowest bids for both projects.

Construction is expected to take three to four weeks and should be finished in time to avoid disrupting school bus routes this fall, county engineer Jim Peck said.

• Approved the purchase and lease agreement of a Chevrolet Tahoe 4X4 for the Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency.

The purchase price of the vehicle is $38,770 from Kelley Chevrolet of Fort Wayne, the only dealership that submitted a quote. The lease is with Hoosier Heartland State Bank for seven years with an annual payment of $5,350.17. EMA will pay $8,000 from this year’s budget toward the purchase. The SUV replaces a vehicle EMA purchased from the Crawfordsville Fire Department for $1.

• Gave highway director Jake Lough approval to sign a lease purchase for a new chip-seal distributor. The semi-annual lease payment is $17,129.21 for a total amount of $239,808.94. Payments will be made until 2028.

• Approved a $2,200 quote from Keesee & Sons Painting to paint the Superior Court II courtroom. Judge Daniel Petrie said there isn’t money in the court’s budget for the work and requested funds from the commissioners budget.
