Traffic pattern for fireworks show stays the same

Posted

Fireworks watchers will follow the usual traffic pattern after Monday’s Independence Day celebration at Milligan Park.

The traffic plan guides vehicles in both directions on South Boulevard and away from the park on Joe Allen Parkway, Danville Avenue and Elmore, Prospect and Payton streets. The plan was approved Wednesday by the Crawfordsville Board of Public Works and Safety.

Crawfordsville’s annual Fourth of July celebration kicks off at 7 p.m. with food trucks on site from Wildfire 348, Hoosier Ice Queen and Street Penguin Gelato. There also will  be free activities for children, including face painting and inflatables. Fireworks follow at 10 p.m.

Another patriotic project — the return of the Veteran’s Day Parade — was approved by the board. Jason Black and Gary Bell from the Brian Bowman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1431 are in the process of organizing the downtown parade slated for Nov. 11. Parade entries will follow a similar route taken during the annual downtown Christmas parade and will require similar road closures that day.

The men also are working with others from American Legion Post 72 and the Disabled American Veterans to create a successful parade.

Black said the parade would begin at the conclusion of the annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony, which is slated for 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Marie Canine Plaza at the corner of East Main and Green streets.

In other business, the board:

• Signed a $72,083 contract between the city and DES Engineering of Crawfordsville for engineering and surveying services related to the southside sewer project.

• Accepted a bid from Mora Concrete Services of Crawfordsville in the amount of $10,850 for concrete replacement at the rear entrance to the Fusion 54 building. The company was one of three companies to submit a bid, and was the low bidder.

• Approved a request from Crawfordsville Main Street for the placement of two “no parking” signs on South Washington Street next to the Pike Place entrance during the First Friday events that occur there.

• Approved Pike Street closures for the Rotary Club Concert series from 3-11 p.m. July 8, Aug. 12 and Sept. 9.

• Approved a revised request from Barb Wilson of Music on Grant to conduct its summer recital at Pike Place on July 9 from 4-6 p.m. An earlier approved concert was postponed.

• Approved a request from Pro Choice Home Solutions to place a 20-yard dumpster at 603 S. Green St. for a roof tear off. The will be place there from Friday through Tuesday.

• Approved a request to place a dumpster on the old iron bridge apron at the bend in Elston Avenue north of the Lew Wallace entrance from Aug. 26-29 for the Taste of Montgomery County.
