TRES welcomes new counselor

Posted

MARSHALL — Turkey Run Elementary welcomed a Correna Gilstrap to their counseling staff Feb. 2.

Sheryl McDaniel will begin working at Parke Heritage High School full-time. She had been splitting her time between the elementary and the high school.

This new position will allow TRES to have a full-time counselor to serve our students and to assist them with their needs. Gilstrap will continue with the programs that McDaniel has established in the classroom as well as seeing students on an individual basis.

“It is exciting to have a full-time counselor at TRES,” McDaniel said. “This will allow for more direct and indirect services, programs and support to our students and their families at TRES. It has been a great experience working with and supporting the students at TRES. I will miss working with the students tremendously, but they are in good hands.  I look forward to working with the students again when they start high school.”

Gilstrap has taught third and fifth grade and has been working as a middle school behavioral skills specialist. She and her partner, Dan, and children, Henry and Cora, live in southern Montgomery County.

“I am so excited to be a part of the TRES family,” Gilstrap said. “I look forward to meeting and working with all the students and staff.”

Funding for this new position was provided by Title funding that the school corporation received.
