Van Edward Stevenson, 76, of Veedersburg died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021, at Franciscan Health Lafayette, with his wife and daughter at his side.

He was born June 16, 1944, at Kankakee, Illinois, to James and Erma (Blythe) Stevenson. His dad was a student at Olivet Nazarene College.

His parents; brother Jerry; many aunts and uncles and three first cousins preceded him. 

Van married Rayna Thompson on Nov. 14, 1981, at Georgetown, Illinois. They have one daughter, Rachel (Quinn) Miller of Hillsboro. Also surviving are two grandsons, Keagin, 14, and Eli, 11; granddaughter Tiffany, 12; two sisters, Bev (James) Green of Georgetown, Illinois, and Debbie Stevenson of Bloomington, Illinois; three nephews, Todd (Angela) Green of Georgetown, Illinois, Michael (Nicole) Green of LeRoy, Illinois, and Chad (Jamie) Green of Graham, Washington; and one aunt, Ilene (Claude) Robertson of Georgetown, Illinois.

He was raised in Georgetown, Illinois.

Van enjoyed going out to eat or for coffee with all his friends. He loved riding his Goldwing motorcycle.  He was proud of his military service in the Navy. He served on the USS Hancock during the Vietnam War. He was a life member of the VFW Post 3510 in Danville, Illinois. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 288 at Veedersburg. Van retired in 2001 from Heatcraft (Bohn) in Danville, Illinois.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22 at Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg, with Pastor Tom Hunter officiating. Visitation will begin at noon Friday at the funeral home and continue until the time of service. Everyone attending the services are asked to wear face mask. Military honors will be provided at the funeral home by the US Navy and American Legion Post #288. Burial will take place at a later date at the Danville National Cemetery.
