Vanity reopens with Disney Showcase

Posted

Love is an open door this weekend at the Vanity Theater. After a year of lockdown procedures due to COVID-19, the theater is ready to again entertain audiences with a Disney Showcase.

Directed by Steve Frees, local performers were able to audition to sing their favorite songs from Disney’s wide selection of hits. The singers, ages 8-18, will share their memories in a family-friendly venue fun for Disney fans of all ages.

Tickets for this event are available for pre-sale only on the Sugar Creek Player’s website, and seating will be limited to follow the social distancing guidelines. Tickets are $15 for adults, and $10 for students, and the show is a one-act presentation that should last about an hour.  Performances will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Doors will open 20 minutes prior to the show, and face masks will be required for both the audience and the performers. A temperature check will also be conducted upon entering the theater.

“We know there are still a lot of precautions,” said Vanity board member Katie Melvin, “but we’re so glad we are able to perform on the Vanity stage live again.”

The Disney Showcase will be the first show done in front of a live audience in over a year at the Vanity, thanks to the approval of the Montgomery County Health Department.

“It has been a struggle to keep the lights on at the theater during this time, and we can only hope this is a step towards bringing live theatre back to The Vanity Theater,” Melvin said.

The Vanity is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and recently launched a campaign of $50 for 50 years to help the Sugar Creek Players continue to support local theater. Anyone interested in making a donation of any size can find more information on how to do so at the Vanity website at www.sugarcreekplayers.org.
