Veterans officer gives report

The weather has been nice for this time of year. We have been busy with 71 phone calls and 10 people visiting my office to do claims. We also had 12 people travel to the VA hospital or clinics.

The Indianapolis POW/MIA Council of Indianapolis is finalizing plans for the annual POW/MIA Remembrance Day Ceremoney on Sept. 16. If you wish to make a reservation, contact indy.pow.mia@gmail.com or call 815-953-2101. Events include: 7:30-10 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Watch Fire Indiana War Memorial, 55 E. Michigan St., Indianapolis; 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Sept. 16, escort pre-ceremony and departure at 11 a.m., Fort Benjamin Veterans Center, 9450 E. 59th St., Indianapolis; 11:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 16, pre-ceremonial concert, Indiana War Memorial Ceremony, 55 E. Michigan St., Indianapolis.

I will be at the VFW Post 1431 in Crawfordsville 1-4 p.m. Sept. 22 to speak with anyone who wants to come in. You don’t need to be a Post member to speak to me.

Here is some really good news, pay increase for veterans and military retired along with seniors is estimated at 9.6%, according to The Senior Citizen League, a nonpartisan senior advocacy nonprofit which says this could be the largest percentage jump since 1981 when they received a total of 11.2%.

Indiana AgVets Agriculture Career Certification and Internship program is for military veterans. The primary goal of this project is to equip veterans with the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in agricultural-related careers.
