VOLLEYBALL: Hot Dogs sweep Athenians on senior night

The Crawfordsville volleyball team got off to a bumpy start and was unable to recover in a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-24) loss to Frankfort on Tuesday night.

“That’s the scrappiest team we’ve played,” Crawfordsville coach Kelly Johnson said. “We’ve been up against teams for three matches that all you do is hit at you, and then all the sudden you’ve got somebody who is tipping and hustling. They do a nice job.”

Macy Bruton led the Athenians with 15 kills, 10 digs, and two aces, while Shea Williamson had 11 assists, nine digs, and one kill.

Hallie Gayler chipped in eight kills, while Olivia Reed had 14 digs, and Abby Bannon had six kills and four kills, and Alyx Bannon four digs and two blocks.

The Athenians (14-12) celebrated seniors Abby Bannon and Lauren Kellerman before the match.

“Abby and Lauren are fantastic young ladies, Johnson said. “Awesome and positive leadership. You’re not going to ask for two better seniors, those girls have worked hard. Abby obviously has been on varsity for four years, and Lauren coming out there for the first time has grown and learned.”
