Posted

NEW MARKET — For a second straight night the Southmont volleyball team fell to a potential sectional opponent. After losing at South Putnam on Wednesday in five sets, Parke Heritage paid a visit to Southmont on Thursday and beat the Mounties 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-14).

“I think we came out that first set and executed a game plan,” Southmont coach Lauran Nichols said. “and then the following sets we just got away from that.”

Southmont is now 8-6 on the season, and 0-3 against sectional opponents.

Nichols knows the Mounties have work to do if they want to repeat as sectional champions in two weeks.

“We want to play well and nobody wants to lose games,” she said. “The same thing it’s nice to see teams this close to the sectional so you know what to prepare for.”

“I talked to the girls just about the attitude out on the court and the mental toughness. We struggle being mentally engaged the entire match and following through on a game plan for an entire match.”

Sidney Veatch led the Mounties with 12 assists and nine kills, while Natalie Manion had 20 digs.
