Voting is the most fundamental right and responsibility of American citizens. To be eligible to vote, you must be registered. Deadline for registration for the May Primary Election is April 4.
If you are not presently registered, you can do that in person at the Voter Registration Office located in second floor at the courthouse and is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday thorugh Friday. The office is open during lunch hours.
If you wish to apply by mail, contact Karyn Douglas at the Montgomery County Voter Registration Office 765-364-6437, and a form will be sent to you. Your completed form must be postmarked no later than 29 days prior to the election.
To register you must be a citizen of the United States and at least 18 years of age on or before election day. Other information needed to register include: gender, name, address (no post office-if no address, write short description or attach map), mailing address, date of birth, telephone number, Indiana Driver’s License Number of Bureau of Motor Vehicles ID Card or last four digits of social security number.
The future of Montgomery County, Indiana and United States is dependent upon attracting and electing good people to serve in key elected and appointed positions. The May Primary serves to choose Republican and Democrat party candidates for a number of county, state, judge and federal positions as well as party positions and is exceedingly important.
County positions include Clerk of the Circuit Court, County Commissioner District 1, County Commissioner District 3, County Council Member At Large and County Recorder. Republican Precinct Committeeman for Crawfordsville 08, Franklin, Madison, Union 7 and Walnut are also on the ballot.
Six candidates on are ballot for State Republican Convention Delegates.
At the state governmental level, citizens in Montgomery County will be voting for State Representatives for District 13 and 41.
There are 12 candidates on the ballot for United States President (10 Democrat and two Republican candidates).
Voters will also cast ballots for Representative from the Fourth Indiana Congressional District (two Democrat and one Republican candidate are on the ballot).
Once registered, it is important to vote. Watch for future information on voting locations and information about individual candidates.
