Wabash forced extra innings after tying Thursday evening’s non-conference baseball game against Anderson University at 3-3 in the eighth inning. The Little Giants won in breathtaking fashion, rallying to secure a 4-3 walk-off victory in the tenth inning.
The Little Giants got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom in the first inning with the game still scoreless. Wabash got on the board thanks to Fremion’s RBI double with two outs.
The Ravens (17-10) failed to push any runs across before the Little Giants built on their lead in the third inning. Phillips came across to score the lone run of the inning for Wabash, which brought the score to 2-0 in favor of the Little Giants.
Wabash’s lead had disappeared by the time the seventh inning arrived and turned into a 3-2 Anderson advantage when the Little Giants evened up the game at three. The Little Giants scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Phillips to score pinch-hitter Ryan Keating from second base.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the tenth when Wabash walked it off on Will McKinzie’s two-out RBI double.
Connor Lambert (1-1) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Wabash (16-7). The right-hander went one shutout inning while giving up one hit.
Offensively, the Little Giants were paced by Will Fremion, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double, a walk and two RBI. Will Phillips also furnished a standout performance at the dish, going 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. McKinzie put together one hit in five trips to the plate while adding a double and the game-winning RBI in the tenth inning.
