Little Giants tune-up at ISU before conference
TERRE HAUTE —The Wabash track and field team sent a small group of athletes to Indiana State to compete in the John Gartland Invitational on Saturday in preparation for next week’s North Coast Athletic Conference Championships.
FrEshman Jakob Van Pelt set a new personal best in the shot put with a launch of 13.18 meters (43 feet, 3 inches), matching the conference standard and punching his ticket to the championship meet. Sophomore Jacob Guse also achieved a collegiate-best toss of 12.48 meters (40 feet, 11.50 inches) in the event.
Freshman Morgyn Clark competed in the 400-meter dash and crossed the tape in 54.37 for a new personal record.
After a minor injury, sophomore Daiden Taulbee set season bests in the 60 and 200-meter dash with marks of 7.49 and 24.88, respectively.
The Little Giants are slated as the favorites for the 2025 NCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, according to the pre-championship poll. Wabash accumulated 76 points and five first-place votes from the coaches.
The championship meet will take place on Friday and Saturday at Oberlin College.

Tennis sweeps matches over Simpson, Principia
ELSAH, Illinois — The Wabash College tennis team scored two 7-0 wins on Saturday to improve to 7-2 for the season. The Little Giants defeated Simpson College from Iowa 7-0 in the first match before knocking off host Principia College 7-0 in the second contest.
Wabash won all three doubles matches against Simpson, starting with a 6-4 win by Vittorio Bona and Ethan Koeneman at number one singles. Eric Tien and Eduardo Werneck combined for a 6-0 shutout at number two singles. Jett Brownlee and Blake Discher II earned a 6-0 shutout win in the third doubles flight.
Bona won his number-one singles match 6-0, 6-1. Werneck scored a 6-4, 1-6, 10-6 victory at number two singles. Tien picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win in the third singles flight to secure the team win. Brownlee added a 6-0, 6-1 win at number four singles. Sam Solo Garcia won 6-0, 6-0 at number five singles, as did Faustino Dimuro at number six singles.
The Little Giants swept the three doubles matches in the second contest against Principia. Augusto Ghidini and Cole Shifferly won 6-3 in the first doubles match. Rafael Rin and Murilo Guarniari scored a 7-5 victory in the second doubles flight. Tharkesh Ashokar and Bona combined for a 6-0 win at number three doubles.
Shifferly won his number-one singles contest 7-5, 6-2. Rin picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at number two singles. Ashokar won his third singles flight 6-3, 6-4. Guarniarii earned a 6-0, 6-0 shutout win at number four singles. Ghidini won 6-1, 6-1 at number five singles. Maksymilian Domanski earned the final victory for the Little Giants with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six singles.
Wabash starts the North Coast Athletic Conference portion of its schedule on Friday with a home match against Kenyon College.
LACROSSE
Lacrosse earns 12-6 win over Muskingum
CINCINNATI, Ohio — Wabash scored five first-period goals and matched Muskingum University goal for goal over the final three periods to earn a 12-6 victory on Saturday in a neutral-site contest played at Mount St. Joseph University.
Wabash (3-0) trailed 1-0 after the Muskies (0-2) tallied the game’s first goal. Evan Bair tied the match at 1-1 before Quinn Fitzgerald gave Wabash the lead with the first of his seven goals. Will Sorg added a goal with 5:21 left in the first period before Blake Stephens and Fitzgerald scored to finish the quarter for a 5-1 lead for the Little Giants.
Fitzgerald added two more goals in the second period to equal goals by Muskingum, providing a 7-3 lead for Wabash at halftime.
Muskingum opened the second half with another goal that was answered by two more from Fitzgerald. Christian Dybedock tallied the final goal of the third period to put the Little Giants up 10-4. Fitzgerald and Jake Pippen notched four-period goals to equal two Muskie goals in the 12-6 final.
Bair added three assists with his goal. Fitzgerald and Sam Santiago each tallied two assists. Luka DiFilippo won 14 of 20 faceoffs for Wabash and scooped up a team-best seven ground balls. Charlie Rafalko and Quinn Shefferly each caused two turnovers for Wabash.
Colin Krekeler recorded 15 saves to earn his third victory of the season in goal for the Little Giants.
Wabash heads to Ohio Northern University on Saturday.
