Curnutt breaks school record in 5,000-meter run
Wabash College senior Brayden Curnutt broke the school in the 5,000-meter run on Saturday while competing at the Heenan Invitational at North Central College. The remainder of his teammates competed at the non-scoring I-55 Invitational hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University.
Curnutt set a new school record of 14:24.55 in the 5,000-meter run, finishing in third place in the event and posting the sixth-fastest time by a Division III runner this season. Curnutt broke the former school record of 14:44.18 held by Nick Boyce and set in 2015.
Sly Williams won the long jump with a top effort of 6.52 meters (21 feet, 4.75 inches). Wyatt Dorsey scored a fifth-place finish with his leap of 6.13 meters (20 feet, 1.5 inches). Williams and Carter Leininger both earned berths in the finals of the 60-meter dash at the I-55 meet. Williams placed fourth in the finals by finishing in 7.11. Leinenger captured fifth place by crossing the line in 7.14. Leininger added a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with his time of 23.16.
David Adesanya scored a second-place finish in the 800-meter run by posting a time of 1:58.21. Teammate Sawyer Lewis finished fifth overall with a time of 2:04.74. Angel Perez added a second-place finish in the mile run by turning in a time of 4:28.72.
Jack Huisden qualified for the final of the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in fourth place in the finals with a time of 9.00.
Morgyn Clark cleared 1.85 meters (6 feet, 0.75 inches) in the high jump to earn a third-place finish in that event.
William Boas earned two top-five finishes in the throwing events at Illinois Wesleyan. He placed third in the shot put with a top mark of 12.77 meters (41 feet, 10.75 inches). Teammate Jakob VanPelt finished fourth with a top throw of 12.50 meters (41 feet, 0.25 inches). Boas also placed third in the weight throw with his toss of 15.32 meters (50 feet, 3.25 inches). Lane Brockman captured fourth place with a throw of 14.36 meters (47 feet, 1.50 inches).

Curnutt set a new school record of 14:24.55 in the 5,000-meter run, finishing in third place in the event and posting the sixth-fastest time by a Division III runner this season. Curnutt broke the former school record of 14:44.18 held by Nick Boyce set in 2015.
Curnutt won the award for the second consecutive week.
