Wabash starts spring break with dominating 17-3 win over Greensboro

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia — Freshman Charlie Rafalko scored four goals, and senior Quinn Fitzgerald produced three goals and five assists to lead the Wabash College lacrosse team to a 17-3 win over Greensboro College at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex on Monday.

Rafalko notched two goals in the first half to go with two from Fitzgerald to lift Wabash (4-2) to a 9-0 lead at halftime. Fitzgerald started the scoring in the first five minutes of the match, followed by goals from Evan Bair, Jake Pippen, Rafalko, and Zade Kalesperis to put the Little Giants in front 5-0 in the first period.

Rafalko, Will Sorg, and Fitzgerald added second-period goals, with a final goal of the period coming from Christian Dybedock to provide the 9-0 lead. Rafalko opened the third-period scoring to complete the hat trick, with Pippen adding a second goal to push the advantage to 11-0. Greensboro (2-5) scored its three goals to close the third period, drawing to within eight goals at 11-3.

Sam Santiago ended the string of goals from the Pride with a fourth-quarter score. Bair, Fitzgerald, Rafalko, and Pippen added goals in the final period before Will Kerker finished the scoring with his second goal of the season.

Wabash outshot Greensboro 56 to 22 and scored five goals on seven extra-man opportunities. The Little Giants limited Greensboro to one goal on five extra-man chances. Eli Backus caused a pair of turnovers to pace the Wabash defense. Luka DiFilippo won 15 of 22 faceoff tries and grabbed a team-best 10 ground balls.

Goalkeeper Colin Krekeler recorded seven saves to earn the victor in net for the Little Giants. Brody Carr posted two saves in relief at goalkeeper.

Wabash continues its spring break schedule in Virginia Beach on Wednesday with an 11 a.m. match against Curry College.
