Grant Stratton had a solid outing on the hill on Tuesday, helping the Wabash baseball team bring home the 8-1 win against the Eureka College Red Devils in the Little Giants’ 2025 home opener at Goodrich Ballpark.
The quality outing from Stratton (2-2) earned him the victory on the mound for Wabash (7-5). The right-hander went seven shutout innings, giving up four hits, two walks, and striking out five. Freshman Jarrod Kirsch gave up one run on one hit and two walks with one strikeout in his lone inning of work. Conner Lambert threw one shutout inning while allowing one hit, walking none, and striking out one.
At the plate, the Little Giants were led by Camden Scheidt, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double, two walks, and an RBI. Will Phillips also compiled a noteworthy day at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a double. Will Fremion also helped out for Wabash, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding two walks.
The Little Giants got on the scoreboard first, starting in the fourth inning. Wabash scored two runs in the inning by taking advantage of Eureka’s two throwing errors (4-9).
The Little Giants built on their lead in the seventh inning. The Wabash offense exploded for five runs, scoring on two errors, a wild pitch, and a groundout off the bat of Miles Cvelbar, which brought the score to 7-0 in favor of the Little Giants.
Eureka narrowed Wabash’s lead to 7-1 before the Little Giants stretched the advantage to 8-1 in the eighth inning on Scheidt’s double to score Phillips. Scheidt, who broke the Wabash career records for triples during the Little Giants’ spring break trip to Florida, ranks fourth in program history with 44 doubles and trails all-time leader David Oliger’s mark of 50.
