Walking tour opens Saturday

Do you know when our post office mural was painted and why it’s a local treasure? Did you know a trailblazing woman doctor had her office where Rainbow and Rhymes’ playground now is?

The Montgomery County Wellness Coalition in partnership with the League of Women Voters of Montgomery County, Purdue Extension and a team of local volunteers invite you to get out to stroll, walk or jog the free Explore C’ville and Walk Through Time Trail in downtown Crawfordsville.

In this time when we need to stay socially distanced for the public’s health, this is a great way to get some exercise, maybe some outdoor family time, and to see your downtown, and learn some tidbits about its history that may be new to you.

This trail, based on the 2007 League of Women Voters women’s history walking tour, is a more expansive walk through several of our downtown streets. The pathway invites families, individuals and tourists alike to follow the clever signage that points the way and provides information about the area or building. Many signs have QR codes that you can scan to access additional information about our rich heritage. The tour will be in place until October.

Beginning Saturday, come downtown to visit the 35 way-finding signs as you newly explore downtown on foot. The Crawfordsville Farmers’ Market will be open that day for the first time this season alongside the public library on Pike Street. The Walking Trail’s first marked signs are at the public library so why not combine these two wonderful local opportunities?
