Walter C. Irvin, 88, formerly of Veedersburg, passed away 10:05 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024, at Fountain Springs in Covington.
Walter was born Nov. 18, 1936, at Tompkinsville, Kentucky, the son of Audie C and Agnes (Emberton) Irvin. He married Ruth Marie Foley on Oct. 18, 1975, at Veedersburg. She preceded him in death May 11, 2024.
He is also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pauline High and Lila Mae Fishburn; and two brothers, Robert Morrie Irvin and Ronald William Irvin.
He served his country in the US Army from 1954 to 1957. Prior to his enlistment with the Army he had been employed as a teen-ager at The Chicago Bakery. Throughout his life he had worked in the home construction business; both self-employed and employed at Community Action for several years. He had installed vinyl siding on many homes throughout the area.
Surviving family include: three sisters-in-law, Roseanna Maust, Goshen, Marvel May Moore, Bedford, and Linda Lou (Ted) Warfield, Veedersburg; three brothers-in-law, Elvin Samuel Foley Jr., Veedersburg, John Wesley (Lois) Foley, Coatsville, Pennsylvania, and Thomas Wayne (Faye) Foley, Noblesville; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 at Dickerson Funeral Home, with Pastor Greg McDonald officiating. Visitation will begin at noon and continue until the time of service. Burial will be at the VA National Cemetery in Danville, Illinois.
