Walter Rex Fultz, 85, of Crawfordsville passed away at 12:30 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2024, in Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.
Rex was born July 22, 1938, at Rochester, Indiana, son of the late William M. and Edith E. Etnier Fultz. He married Elizabeth “Betty Jo” Pritchett on Jan. 18, 1958, at Wingate. She survives.
Rex was a graduate of Jackson Heights High School in Tippecanoe County near where his family farmed. He served four years in the Army Reserves. He was employed by Raybestos in Crawfordsville until his retirement. He also operated the family farm while he was working off the farm.
He attended Harvest Chapel Church until his health failed and had belonged to the Montgomery County Pioneer Tractor Club. Rex loved tractors … tinkering with them, playing with them and farming with them, especially Allis Chalmers brand. He fabricated two Allis Chalmers WD 45 tractors into one tandem hitched tractor, which was a mechanical marvel!
He was a little on the stubborn side, but an excellent husband, father and grandfather. When time allowed he enjoyed fishing.
Surviving, along with his wife Betty Jo, are sons, Monte L. (Sara) Fultz of rural Waynetown, Scott A. (Janice) Fultz of Mustang, Oklahoma, and Berne D. Fultz of Butler, Indiana; sister Marilyn (Russell) Hutchison of rural Crawfordsville; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Max and Gene; and sister Elsie.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 7, at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. The family requests those attending please dress casual and comfortable.
