Ward A. Fritzen, 83, of Crawfordsville and formerly of Kingman, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024, at home.
He was born Sept. 5, 1941, in LaPorte, Indiana, to the late Raymond and Marvel (Hunt) Fritzen.
Ward graduated from LaPorte High School in 1960, Indiana University in 1964, and received his master’s degree in education from Indiana State University. Ward started his career as the music director at Kingman High School, then taught at Fountain Central High School and Turkey Run High School; retiring as the high school principal in 1999 after a 36-year career. He was voted as “Principal of the Year” by the Indiana Association of School Principals. Throughout his career he taught vocal and instrumental and coached golf and tennis. He loved listening to music, golfing, and spending time with his family.
On Feb. 14, 1965, he married the love of his life, Sharon Kay Summers, she survives. He is also survived by his three children, Mark (Natalie) Fritzen, Marla Wilson and Monte Fritzen; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel, Thomas, Ella, Alex, Austin, Mason and Lily; granddaughter, Riley Mae; sister Marvene Waddell; two nieces, Doria and Debby; and nephew Eric.
Visitation will be at Sanders Funeral Care, 203 S. First St., Kingman, on Monday, Dec. 30 from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. There will be a private family burial at Kingman Fraternal Cemetery to follow.
