Wayne S. Wiley of Shannondale passed away Wednesday morning at Bickford of Crawfordsville, where he had resided the past couple of years. He was 86.

Wayne was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Shannondale and the Masonic Lodge. He worked at RR Donnelley for 31 years, retiring in 1995. He also engaged in farming most of his life. He liked oxen, antique tractors, traveling and bowling. He also wrote a book called “The Shannondale Christmas Story.”

Born April 7, 1934 in Lizton, he was the son of Claude G. Wiley and Icie Price Wiley. He graduated from Darlington High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-57. He married Barbara J. Burkhardt June 5, 1955. She passed away March 31, 2010.

Surviving family includes: two sons, Kenny (Christy) Wiley of Jamestown and David (Trina) Wiley of Darlington; daughter Marilyn Wiley (Chuck) Frank of Virginia; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John and Joe, three sisters, Dorothy, Margaret and Louise.

Graveside services with military rites will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Shannondale Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Burkhart Funeral Home.
