WAYNETOWN — Firefighters hand-delivered more than $500 worth of Girl Scout cookies to unsuspecting residents Saturday in Waynetown.
Supporting local scouts’ cookie sales and providing Waynetown’s elderly residents with a pleasant surprise were the only reasons the department and individual firefighters needed to execute the gesture of goodwill, Fire Chief Phil Pirtle said.
Also at the firehouse Saturday was Junior Troop Leader Ashley Ellingwood, who brought daughter Elizabeth along to help deliver the cookies using the department’s firetruck.
“I think it’s awesome,” she said. “I think (the elderly) are definitely going to love it. The girls were excited too. They’ve been talking about it all week ... and about the firetruck ride.”
Miraya Clark, another Junior Troop leader delivering cookies Saturday, also has a daughter in the group, Jillian.
“She’s nervous about driving in a big truck but she’s excited about giving back to the community,” she said.
Girl Scout cookies will be available for purchase through the beginning of March. Dates very by location and vendor. They are sold at Kroger and Walmart in Crawfordsville, as well as through troop members.
