It’s won’t be difficult finding something to do this weekend, and it starts today with the Darlington Fish Fry and Festival kicking off a weekend of activities in the area.
Opening ceremonies in Darlington begins at 5 p.m. when the food tend, booths and games open downtown on and along Main Street.
Registration for the Little Miss & Little Mister contest also starts at 5 p.m. The Cornerstone Band will provide musical entertainment 7-10 p.m. Friday.
Things get underway Saturday with a breakfast at the Darlington Volunteer Fire Station. And the town-wide garage sale runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The food tent and booths open at noon.
A pie baking and cookie baking contest will also take place Saturday. Contestants can enter pies and cookies into the contest between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the Community Center. Judging will begin at noon. Only those ages 12 and younger can participate in the cookie baking contest. The pie baking contest is for all ages and only fruit pies can be entered. Cream, pudding and custard pies along with cheesecakes won’t be accepted.
Musical entertainment provided by Desperate Measures will run 7-10 p.m. Saturday.
Other festivals and events on Saturday include:
• Airport Day is from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Crawfordsville Regional Airport. The event will have food vendors along with plane and helicopter rides. And the Lifeline helicopter, a WWII aircraft and R/C aircraft will be on display.
• The 12th annual Walnut Township Community Day is from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. in New Ross. Garage sales, vendor market, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, 3-point shooting contest, pie baking contest and auction, free kids activities during the afternoon, car show, parade, games and free face painting for the kids during the evening, bingo, Leadsmen band and a 50/50 drawing.
• New Market’s hog roast, which kicks off at 4:30 p.m. at the fire department. The menu includes pulled BBQ sandwiches, sides and desserts. There will be a raffle for an AR-15. The Dapper Dan Band will take the stage.
• The Veedersburg Revitalization Association’s annual Scarecrow Jubilee begins at 4 p.m. in Hub Park. Ham & beans, hot dogs, tacos and other food will be served. Arts and crafts vendors will be on hand along with booths from local organizations and live music. The Veedersburg’s Got Talent Contest is set for 4:30 p.m. “Hotel Transylvania” will be shown at dark.
