Mounties, Chargers and Athenians meet up at Danville Invite

Southmont, North Montgomery and Crawfordsville boys golf all met up for the first time this season on Saturday as all three teams competed at the Danville Invite. The Mounties had a very strong showing on the day as they placed second overall at the meet with a 329. The Mounties were only bested by 3rd ranked Hamilton Southeastern who ended with a 323. Scores for the Mounties were senior Nolan Allen shooting a 77, fellow senior Luke Tesmer an 81, freshman Austin Foley an 83, and senior Harrison Haddock rounding out the scoring with an 88.

The Chargers ended their afternoon tying for ninth place with a 350. Hayden Turner led the way for the Chargers with an 82. Neal Jeffery shot an 84 with Haze Kashon ending his day carding an 86 and Drew Norman shot a 98 to round out the scoring for North Montgomery.

Crawfordsville as a team carded a 390 with sophomore Tanner Gilland shooting an 81. Hayden Jeffries recorded a 97, Braxton Smith a 100 and Carter Truax a 112.

Mustangs clobber four home runs in DH sweep of North Vermillion.

Fountain Central softball has shown its very capable of putting up runs this season. On Saturday the Mustangs welcomed WRC foe North Vermillion for two games. The Mustang offense powered its way to 23 total runs as FC came away with a sweep of North Vermillion winning game one 15-8 and game two 8-3.

In the 15-8 game one win, the Mustangs used five extra-base hits including a solo home-run off the bat of junior Sami Krout. Jackie Weber, Zoe Foxworthy-Dejournett, and Audree Brown all recorded doubles and Foxworthy-Dejournett added in a triple. Weber, Foxworthy-Dejournett and Kacey Kirkpatrick all collected three hits each. Krout had two as did Audree Brown while Katie Brown and Kyra Kiger ended the game with one.

In game two the long ball was even more prevalent for the Mustangs as they tallied three home runs in the 8-3 win. Foxworthy-Dejournett hit two home runs with Kirkpatrick and Weber also getting in on the home run festivities. FC had 13 more hits as Foxworthy-Dejournett, Weber, Kirkpatrick, K. Brown, and Lilly Bennett all had two. Breann Townsend, Kiger, and Kearney Foxworthy-Dejournett all added one.

FC improves to 4-5 (2-4 WRC) on the season with their pair of wins and will host Seeger on Tuesday.

Athenians swept in Beech Grove Invite

Crawfordsville softball traveled to Beech Grove on Saturday for the Hornet Invite and was defeated in both of their games. They fell to Beech Grove in game one 19-0 in five innings and Edgewood 15-0 in five innings. In the two games Crawfordsville combined for four total hits. Olivia Hedrick and Christina Susdorf had the two hits in game one while Susdorf and Lilyann Bridgham had the pair of hits in game two.

CHS falls to 0-8 on the season and returns to play on Tuesday when they welcome SAC rival Tri-West.

Baseball

Mustangs bats come alive for 41 runs in sweep of Falcons

Lukas Miller fired a no-hitter and Fountain Central’s offense exploded for 21 runs in game of their WRC double-header on Saturday against North Vermillion. FC capitalized off of seven Falcon errors and pounded out 16 hits in the win. Luke Foxworthy went 4-4 with four RBI’s on the day to lead the Mustangs. Nolan Acton tallied three hits while Owen Acton, Cole Garbison, and Kyle Slinker added two. Brayden Prickett, Andrew Woodrow, and Miller also all added one hit each.

Miller struck out 12 Falcons in the five inning no-hitter.

In game two FC’s bats stayed red hot winning 20-9. Foxworthy picked up two more hits and three more RBI’s while Prickett added a pair of hits also. Zach Guerin, Uriah Wildman, Miller and Slinker each had a single hit.

The sweep gives the Mustangs their first two wins of the season as they improve to 2-7 (2-4 WRC). They’ll return to action on Tuesday when they host Seeger.

Chargers fall to Bronchos

Making a trip to Loeb Stadium in Lafayette on Saturday, North Montgomery baseball hung in with a talented Lafayette Jeff team for much of the game. A seven run fifth dealt the final blow to the Chargers and they were defeated 9-1.

Offensively North Montgomery was held to just three hits. Ross Dyson, Noah Hopkins, and Gage Galloway had a hit each. On the mound Corbin Meadows got the start and picked up the loss going four and two-thirds innings giving up five hits, six runs (four earned), while walking and striking our three.

The Chargers fall to 6-3 on the season and will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Danville before welcoming the Warriors on Wednesday.
