WEEKEND SPORTS: Allen leads South XC, Mustangs in action, senior golf results

Mustangs beat Trojans 

The Fountain Central boys’ tennis team defeated Covington 4-1 on Friday night and in the process through fundraising efforts raised $2,370 for the Evan McTagertt Memorial Scholarship and the Levi McTagertt Trust Fund.

In the contest, Carson Eberly picked up a win at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-2 over Evan Norton, while Cody Linville beat Jackson Kindell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Brent Myers defeated Emmett Reynolds 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 3 slot.

Sawyer Keeling and Brayden Prickett defeated Aiden Miller and Peyt Shumaker 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, while the duo of Jacob Keeling and CJ Yager fell to Myles and Nolan Potter 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.

Mustangs place 2nd at Bi-County

The Fountain Central boys’ tennis team was back in action on Saturday at the Bi-County tournament, placing second with 11 points behind Covington’s 15.

Carson Eberly was second at No. 1 singles, including a 6-1, 6-0 win over Seeger’s Christian Holland. Sawyer Keeling took top honors at No. 3 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Attica’s  Dusty Marlatt and a 6-1, 6-2 win over Covington’s Jackson Kendall.

At No. 1 doubles the duo of Jacob Keeling and CJ Yager finished third, with an 8-1 win over Attica’s Jeffries and Blankenship in the consolation round. The duo of Brayden Prickett and Koby Wolf picked up wins over Attica’s Jerkins and Garrett 6-0, 6-1 and Seeger’s Kaiden Peterson and Shawn Grady 7-5, 6-2 to win the No. 2 doubles title.

FC splits at invite

The Fountain Central volleyball team split a pair of games on Saturday against Mississinewa and North Miami. The Mustangs fell to Mississinewa 2-1 (25-22, 22-25, 15-13) and beat North Miami 2-0 (25-20, 26-24).

Chloe Golia led the Mustangs with 14 kills on the day, while Lillie Fishero and Larissa Bowers each added 10. Jerzi Hershberger-Simmons had 32 digs, while Marley Massey had 31, and Fishero added 19 assists.

Mounties run at Cascade

The Southmont cross country teams competed at the Jon Mitchell Cross Country Invitational at Cascade High School on Saturday.

Faith Allen paced the Mounties with a second-place finish in a time of 20:01 in the girls’ race. Rachel Rhoads was 37th with a time of 24:55 and Grace Simpson 53rd in 27:05.

Aaron Evans placed 24th in the boys’ race with a time of 19:01, while Mason Cass was 26th in 19:14. Brett Keller placed 47th in 20:48 , Connor Keller 55th in 22:13 and Toby Casteel 70th in 25:27.

Chargers fall to Sparkplugs

The North Montgomery girls’ soccer team fell on Saturday 6-1 to Speedway.

Teegan Bacon scored the lone goal for the Chargers in the loss.

North Montgomery is now 6-2 on the season and travels to Sheridan on Tuesday.

Senior Golf Results

The team of Jim Long, Fred Phelps, Jay Fuima, Steve Burkle, S. Winningham, and Bud Arnold won the Crawfordsville Municipal Golf Course’s weekly senior scramble on Friday with a low score of -15 under par. Jim White, Garry Moore, Bill Bloone, Greg Simpson, Steve Snyder, and Larry Foster were second at -11 under par, while G. Winningham, Sonny Shelton, Dick VanArsdel, John Welliever, John Stull and D. Wilson were third at -10 under par.

Jack Phillips won the proxy on No. 1, while Phelps won on No. 10. VanArsdel was the long drive winner on No. 8.
