William Scott Kegley, 73, was born Nov. 10, 1951, to Ellen Kegley (later Schmidt) and William F. Kegley. He died unexpectedly in his home on Nov. 13, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his son, Benjamin Kegley, and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jane Christophersen; his children, Erin Coffman (Adam) and Claire Reed (Alexander). He is also survived by his sisters, Carol Kegley and Mary Howard Brentano (Michael). He leaves behind his grandchildren, Mackenzie Calloway (Adam), Drake Kegley, Madalyne Hottenstine and Juliette Reed, as well as great-grandchildren, Boston Calloway and Kayde Kegley.
Scott graduated from Bloomington South High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and his master’s degree in education from DePauw University. He taught biology and chemistry at Switzerland High School and North Montgomery High School, where he also coached football, track and basketball. He was offensive coordinator for the 1995 and 1996 NMHS 3A State Champion football teams. Scott also worked in various capacities in car dealerships before he retired in 2020.
Scott had many interests. He was a lifelong IU, Colts and Dodgers fan. He loved to watch sports, listen to music and go to concerts, work with his plants, go boating, and most of all play with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Scott enjoyed traveling and watching travel shows. When he was home, he was always snuggling with his beloved cats and dogs. Those who love Scott agree that no one was more kind, generous or tender-hearted.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 at Sanders Funeral Care, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville. A celebration of life will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 at MontCo Events Center, 217 N. Green St., Crawfordsville.
