When she heard meowing as judging got underway in the Montgomery County 4-H Cat Show, Evelyn Zachary knew her cat was stressed.
“But during the second half, she just fell asleep in my lap,” said Zachary, 13, a six-year 4-H member.
Zachary’s 10-year-old American Longhair named Maryanne was selected as grand champion cat, making it her first top prize at the show. Zachary is the daughter of Blake and Rachel Zachary of Ladoga and belongs to the Clark Hustling Hoosiers 4-H club.
Maryanne was the reserve champion cat the past two years and has received grand champion longhair.
The family also has two foster kittens, a pair of Great Danes, seven chickens and a guinea pig.
In her other 4-H projects, Zachary had the grand champion poultry poster and also participates in photography poster and open class culinary arts.
