Position statement 1:

What specific experiences and skills qualify you to be a Superior Court Judge? I have 30 years of experience practicing law in Montgomery County and the surrounding counties handling thousands of cases covering virtually every area of the law. I have handled significant civil cases ranging from wrongful death and serious bodily injury to every area of family law including but not limited to: juvenile matters of delinquency petitions, CHINS actions, parental terminations matters, adoptions, guardianships, divorce, paternity actions, protective orders, child custody and support matters. I have worked on significant contract dispute matters, real estate disputes and estate matters. I have handled thousands of criminal cases over my three decades of practice including complex felony charges of the highest level down to misdemeanors and infractions. I had served as the Chief Deputy Public Defender in Tippecanoe County in 1991 and as court appointed counsel in Montgomery County for 18 years. I have managed my own successful law practice since December 1997 after leaving a local law firm. Further, my 30 years of experience has given me valuable insight while observing and learning from preceding judges. I believe I have the knowledge, skill and demeanor that is necessary to serve this community as a thoughtful, compassionate and understanding judge while following the law in each and every case with the design of finding a just and proper result. I also believe those same years of experience have given me the proper education necessary to be a fair and impartial judge in all matters, civil or criminal — to issue the appropriate ruling on issues of punishment or rehabilitation balancing justice and fairness to all involved. What actions will you take to improve the judicial system within Montgomery County? I wish to implement a mandatory case management system in all domestic relations matters in Superior Court 2 requiring that a financial declaration form be completed in every case within 30 days of its commencement and mandatory sharing of income information within that same time period. The design is to expedite the court process ensuring that cases move along more quickly saving the court and the litigants time and money. I would also like to implement a Mental Health Problem Solving Court to address the problem of mental illness within our community with the goal of providing appropriate mental health services to those in need.

Position statement 3:

What do you want voters to know about you before they cast their ballot? That I chose to run as an Independent because I believe judicial elections should be apolitical. All judges should be independent and impartial beholding to no political or special interest. That I am lucky to be married to my best friend, Sharon Redmaster, who is the best person I know. We have been married for 33 years and lucky enough to have two amazing daughters; Erin Rager and Anna Redmaster. They have been the joys of our lives. They both attended North Montgomery High School graduating as valedictorian and salutatorian respectively and both went on to Purdue University to study Speech Language Pathology. I could not be prouder of the role models they have grown up to become. I also have a 21-month-old grandson that means the world to me. Furthermore, I have practiced law in Montgomery Superior Court 2 for nearly 30 years and have learned from the judges that came before: Judge Lohorn and Judge Kirtley. I believe I can carry on that legacy of excellence.

Position statement 4:

What is the greatest concern that you hear from local citizens? I believe the greatest concern of local citizens continues to be ongoing pandemic of COVID-19. It is unknown when viable long-term treatments and/or vaccines will become available to address this ever-present threat. It is the hope of everyone to return to a semblance of normalcy. The safety, security and health of our citizens is of utmost importance. I plan to address these concerns in the courtroom with the goal of ensuring that Judge Lohorn’s safety plan remains in full force and effect to protect everyone that does court business in Superior Court 2.
