Karyn Douglas

Education/Profession:

• Education: Helix High School, La Mesa, California, some college • Occupation, current political office (if applicable): Currently the Montgomery County Clerk

Position statement 1:

• What specific experiences and skills qualify you to be the Clerk of the Circuit Court? This is my thirteenth year in the Clerk’s office. Before becoming the Clerk four years ago, I was the Voter Registration Deputy. I know every aspect of the department. Two years ago the county changed to a different case management system and a lot of the court activity went electronic.

Position statement 2:

• What do you think is the most important issue facing Montgomery County in the next four years? I think the largest issue is growth for this county. We need to keep making Montgomery county attractive to outside businesses, which will bring in new people to our community. I have a daughter who is starting high school next year. When kids graduate high school and college most do not return. We have a great community and I would like to see people want to stay here.

Position statement 3:

• What goals or specific ideas do you have for this term in office? I would like to continue to streamline a lot of our processes. Also, I would like to look into moving forward into social media with the election process to help get information out to our voters.

Position statement 4:

• What do you want voters to know about you before they cast their ballot? I would like for the voters of Montgomery County to take the time out of their day and vote. There are a lot of people registered, but not a lot of people show up to the polls. It takes five minutes of your time. That five minutes could be a huge difference in who our office holders are. I would also like for the voters in Montgomery County to know that we will continue to make the process fair and impartial so that all feel comfortable in the voting process.

Position statement 5:

• What is the greatest concern that you hear from local citizens? Lately the most I hear is political opinions and concerns about the election process. I can only speak for Montgomery County and for Indiana when I say that we have always followed the laws and codes to ensure that everything is correct before the voters are even able to start voting. Election Day is not one day for us but about three months of preparation and testing. Our door and phones are always open for anyone who might have a question or concern. I love it when I get questions and I am able to help people learn about what our office is doing for them.
