10/3 Roundup: Mountie VB earns win, CHS & FC tennis fall in Regional

Mounties sweep Patriots for third straight win

Southmont volleyball is beginning to play its best volleyball of the season. The Mounties hosted the Seeger Patriots on Tuesday and won their third straight game with a  26-24, 25-20, 26-24 win.

In th win DeLorean Mason led the team with eight kills while Cheyenne Shaw added six. DeLorean and Mallory Mason both had 19 digs to lead the Mountie defense with Kendall Prieve adding 14. Mallory has 16 assists and Priebe led the Mounties in serving with six aces in the win.

Southmont improves to 9-13 on the season with the win and will travel to Riverton Parke on Thursday before rounding out its season on Saturday competing in the North Montgomery Invite.

Athenians swept by No. 1 Carmel

Crawfordsville boys tennis new the monumental task that was ahead of them on Tuesday when they traveled to Lebanon for the Regional semi-finals. The No .1 ranked Carmel Greyhounds were the opponent for the back-to-back sectional champions and in the end the Greyhounds ended the Athenians season with a 5-0 win.

In the final match of his career senior James Murphy was bested by the Greyhounds Jonathan Yang 6-3, 6-0. Subbing for the injured Wyatt Motz at two singles, Nolan Watt was fell to Yizhong Li 6-0, 6-0. The hero of the sectional title, Rowan Gambrel fell to Wes Worobel 6-1, 6-1 at three singles.

At one doubles Jude Coursey and Jude Hutchison fell to Michael Bao and Braedon McIntyre 6-0, 6-0 and the two doubles team of Henry Bannon and Thomas Bowling fell 6-0, 6-0 to David Liu and Grant Mu.

Murphy and Bowling are the two seniors for the Athenian team as CHS once again will return a bulk of their lineup for next season, looking for a third straight sectional title.

Mustangs fall to No. 9 Park Tudor

Fountain Central also traveled to Lebanon on Friday for their Regional semi-final matchup against the No. 9 ranked Park Tudor Panthers. FC saw their season end with a 5-0 loss as they end 2023 with an overall record of 11-3.

Gabe McCollum fell at one singles to the Panthers Aarit Musilannagari 6-0, 6-0. Skyler Hoagland was defeated by Charlie Held 6-1, 6-2 at two singles. Ayden Batchelor lost at three singles to Rohan Shah 6-0, 6-0.

The one doubles team of Koby Wolf and Noah Armstrong was bested 6-0, 6-0 by Michael Fryburg and Oliver Seifert. The senior two doubles team Wes Jackson and Brayden Prickett in their final match of their FC careers fell to Aden Hawkins and Will Schmidt 6-0, 6-2.

FC graduates both doubles teams in Jackson, Prickett, Wolf and Armstrong.
