Athenian offense continues struggles against Stars
For the third consecutive game, the Crawfordsville offense couldn’t push a run across the plate and were held scoreless. The Athenians fell 10-0 in five innings Wednesday to Sagamore Conference foe Western Boone.
CHS tallied just three hits, two coming from Kearston Hutchens, the other coming from Halle Elliot.
The Athenians fall to 0-16 (0-9 SAC) on the season with the loss and will host the Stars on Friday.
Tigers sweep Chargers in DH
After getting rained out Tuesday, North Montgomery softball traveled to Lebanon and played two against the Tigers in a Sagamore Conference double-header.
In the first game, the Chargers were down 8-0 after two innings before showing signs of life and scoring four runs. However, the deficit was too big to overcome as Lebanon defeated North Montgomery 8-4. Piper Ramey went a perfect 3-3 at the plate and drove in all four Charger runs and scored a pair herself.
Faith Shirar and Cascie Keller would collect the other two hits for the Chargers.
In game two, without Ramey on the mound, was a much different story. Things quickly took a turn for the worst for North Montgomery. Lebanon downed the Chargers 25-2 in five innings. They scored nine runs in the second, seven in the third, a single run in the fourth before adding another eight runs in the fifth.
North Montgomery took the opportunity to play some girls who normally don’t get much playing time with a change in their order. They tallied five hits, three of which came off of the bat of Shirar, Skyley Cloncs and Sienna Coleman.
With the pair of losses the Chargers fall to 2-13 (1-8 SAC). They will be back on the diamond Friday as they host Clinton Prairie.

Athenians rout Stars to stay perfect in SAC
The No. 4 ranked Crawfordsville Athenians made the short trip to Dover on Wednesday to take on Western Boone, and kept on rolling with a 15-1 win in five innings.
Crawfordsville scored four runs in the first followed by five more in the second and two in the third. CHS closed out the fifth by adding two more.
Alex Kellerman had the hot bat for the Athenians by going 3-4 with a team-high four RBI’s. AJ Hall went a perfect 3-3 with three runs batted in, while Austin Motz also collected three hits. Bryce Dowell picked up his first home run of the season as part of his three-hit night.
Kale Wemer picked up the win on the mound throwing a complete game and allowing just two Star hits and striking out seven.
CHS improves to 16-1 on the season and remains a perfect 9-0 in conference play.
Mustangs blank Red Ramblers for WRC win
Eight Mustangs collected a single hit each as Fountain Central traveled to Attica and downed the Red Ramblers 11-0 in five innings on Wednesday.
The big inning for Fountain Central came in the fourth. They were leading 1-0 before exploding for nine runs to break open the game.
Brayden Prickett, Dawson Blue, Lukas Miller, Luke Foxworthy, Kyle Slinker, Cole Garbison and Zach Guerin each collected a hit.
Miller picked up the win on the mound, throwing in a one-hit gem while walking just one and striking out seven.
The Mustangs improve to 3-9 on the season.
Golf
Chargers down Gophers
North Montgomery hosted Clinton Prairie on Wednesday and the Chargers took a 179-218 win over the Gophers.
Hayden Turner fired a 42 for the Chargers and was the medalist of the meet. Neal Jeffrey carded a 44, Haze Kashon a 45 and Drew Norman rounded out the scoring for the Chargers on his birthday with a 48.
North Montgomery will return to the links n Friday for a re-scheduled Sagamore Conference matchup with Lebanon.
Athenians and Red Devils battle in close contest
Crawfordsville hosted West Lafayette on Wednesday and the two teams showed their talent by battling in a close match. In the end the Red Devils edged out CHS 162-165 for the win.
Luke Ranard, Landon Timmons and Tanner Gilland all fired 40’s to lead the Athenians. Landon Hurt carded a 45 and Thomas Bowling recorded a 47.
“It was some really fun golf today with another excellent Red Devil team,” Crawfordsville coach Tom Perkins said. “We played well, so you have to tip your hat to a great round West Side played. I’m still confident we’ll get under 160 before the season is over.”
Mounties return to form with low score vs Tiger Cubs
Southmont looked to have found a little bit of rhythm Wednesday as the Mounties hosted Greencastle. South would come away shooting a season-best 165 and defeat the Tiger Cubs 165-173.
Nolan Allen and Luke Tesmer both were named co-medalists by firing 40’s. Harrison Haddock finished just behind with a 41. Ty Elles ended the evening with a 44, Carson McKinnney a 46 and Tanner Walls ended the scoring for the Mounties with a 47.
Southmont returns to the links on Saturday as they will compete in the Tiger Cub Invite hosted by Greencastle.
Mustangs down Wolves in match play style meet
Fountain Central and Parke Heritage played a little different style golf on Wednesday. The two teams played a match play style format which consisted of teams of two alternating shots. The Mustangs came away with a 3.5-1.5 win.
The Mustangs will be back in action Saturday as they compete in the Covington Invite.
Tennis
Chargers fall to Mavericks
North Montgomery hosted McCutcheon on Wednesday and fell to the Mavericks 4-1. The lone win for the Chargers came at three singles as freshman Abigail Allen defeated Gali Villegas 2-6, 6-4 12-10.
“I’m really proud of Abi as she works really hard on the tennis court,” North Montgomery coach Lori Guard said. “She is a great athlete and has improved so much this year and I know she will be an important part of the future of Charger tennis.”
Sydney Neideffer fell at the one singles spot for Jacoby Cummings 6-1, 6-1 and Paige Hudson fell 6-2, 6-3 at two singles. At one doubles Allison Guard and Sydnee Turner were defeated by Brianna Jackson and Olivia Lash 6-4, 7-5.
Rounding out the night at two doubles, Courtney Engels and Shayna Ratcliff fell to Lauren Graham and Jaidyn Winstead 6-0, 6-1.
