5-2 Roundup: Busy Tuesday for area sports

Mounties fall to Warriors

Southmont held a brief 1-0 lead before the brakes began to fall off Tuesday when they hosted Danville. A pair of five-run innings doomed the Mounties who fall to 4-11 (0-8 SAC) on the season.

Mason Hall continues his power surge as the senior slugger hit his seventh home-run of the season in the loss. It was one of the two Southmont hits.

The Mounties will have a day off on Wednesday before traveling to Danville as part of a makeup game that was rained out on Monday.

Miller no-hits Red Ramblers

Lukas Miller threw a no-hitter for Fountain Central baseball on Tuesday when the Mustangs picked up a 16-0 win over Attica. Miller struck out 11 and only walked one in the five innings he pitched.

Fountain Central scored four runs in the first and second innings before piling on with an eight-run third. FC took advantage of 11 Red Rambler walks. Luke Foxworthy led the way with a pair of hits while Brayden Prickett, Cole Garbison and Miller had a hit each.

FC improves to 6-12 on the season and will make the trip to Attica on Wednesday.

Athenians suffer SAC set-back vs Stars

Western Boone was able to pull off a 5-4 upset win over Crawfordsville on Tuesday. An error in the bottom of the sixth broke a 4-4 tie and the Athenian offense was unable to tie or take the lead in the seventh.

Crawfordsville falls to 13-6 (5-3 SAC) with the loss. They’ll look to avenge the loss Wednesday when the Stars come to John Froedge Field.

Softball

Young Mustangs continue to impress

Fountain Central just keeps moving on nicely. Tuesday the Mustangs hosted Attica and came away with a 10-7 win over the Red Ramblers for their seventh win of the season and their 5th in the WRC.

The Mustang offense shined with 15 total hits. Jackie Weber and Kyra Kiger each had three to lead FC. Zoe Foxworthy Dejournett continued her stellar season with her fifth home run of the season and added a double. The junior is up to a .500 batting average on the season. Her sister Kearney Foxworthy-Dejournett along with Sami Krout also added two hits. Kacey Kirkpatrick and Katie Brown had a hit each.

In the circle Kirkpatrick struck out 14 and walked just one in seven innings. Only four of her seven runs allowed were earned.

Fountain Central improves to 7-8 on the season and 5-5 in the WRC. They travel to Attica on Wednesday looking to get to .500 in both categories.

Mounties falter late vs Warriors

For five innings on Tuesday, Southmont competed with a highly touted Danville team. The score read 8-6 Warriors before Danville poured on 14 runs in the sixth inning to pull away for a 22-6 win over the Mounties.

Jenna Grino continued to swing a hot bat for the Mounties going 4-4 with her first home run of the season and a double.

South falls to 7-8 (4-4 SAC) with the loss. They’ll travel to Danville again on Thursday.

Athenians fall to SAC rival Stars

Crawfordsville Softball faced a tough Western Boone team on Tuesday and fell 10-0 in five innings. The Stars put together a five-run third and added three in the fifth to seal the win.

Cville collected two hits from Olivia Hedrick and Christina Susdorf.

CHS falls to 1-14 (1-7 SAC) with the loss. They’ll host the Stars on Wednesday.

Tigers pounce on Chargers

North Montgomery fell down early to Lebanon on Tuesday and could never recover in an 18-3 loss. The Charger defense suffered eight errors in the loss as their offense collected four hits.

Sophia Shea led the team with two while Piper Ramey and Blair Nichols each had one.

North Montgomery falls to 4-12 (2-6 SAC) with the loss and will travel to Lebanon on Wednesday.

Boys Golf

Chargers down Tigers

North Montgomery hosted Lebanon at Rocky Ridge on a windy Tuesday evening and came away with a 177-185 win over their SAC rivals. They improve to 6-0 in dual meets on the season.

Hayden Turner and Neal Jeffery both earned medalist honors for the Chargers with 41’s. Drew Norman carded a 47 and Alex Chapman ended with a 48.

The Chargers are back in action on Wedneday when they travel to take on Clinton Prairie.

Mounties take care of Cadets

Southmont traveled to take on Cascade on Tuesday and the Mounties notched another win, defeating the Cadets 187-223.

Nolan Allen and Austin Foley earned co-medalist with 44’s for the Mounties. Harrison Haddock shot a 49 with Luke Tesmer rounding out the scoring for South with a 50.

They’ll have the rest of the week off before returning to action on Saturday when they travel to compete in the Tiger Cub Invite at Greencastle.

Girls Tennis

Athenians one match away from SAC title

Crawfordsville Girls Tennis remains perfect in the Sagamore Conference after a 4-1 win over Western Boone on Tuesday.

Samantha Rohr at one singles (6-1, 2-6), Emily Weliver at three singles (6-0, 6-0), Elyse Widmer and Mia Wagner at one doubles (6-2, 6-4), and Ali Brown and Olivia Fichter (7-6, 6-2, 6-0) all came away with wins for CHS. Reagan Cox battled at two singles but fell in three sets 6-2, 2-6, 7-10.

Crawfordsville is just a single win away from an out-right Sagamore Conference title. Their lone remaining SAC match will be when they travel to Frankfort next Tuesday (May 9).

Cville will next be back on the courts Wednesday when they welcome Fountain Central.

Mustangs cruise to win over Bronchos

Fountain Central is now 9-2 on the season after the Mustangs cruised to a 5-0 win over Lafayette Jeff on Tuesday.

Haley Webb defeated Emily Riley 6-0, 6-0 at one singles. Alydia Mellady took care of Briseida Aquino at two singles 6-0, 6-0. Josie Harshbarger at three singles brought home a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ava Bittinger.

At one doubles Marylee Muniz and Hannah Prickett defeated Ashley Perez and Magie Bullock 6-1, 6-2 and the duo of Kendall Eberly and Laney Hoagland rounded out the evening with a 6-1, 0-6, 6-4 win over Amelia McAuliffe and Cameron Helton.

Fountain Central will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to take on Crawfordsville.
