All-Conference selections announced for boys basketball


The conclusion of another boys basketball season is here in Montgomery County. With that as per every season’s end the Sagamore Athletic Conference announced its 1st and 2nd All-Conference teams for the 2022-23 season with plenty of county players made the cut.

The Crawfordsville Athenians had senior Cale Coursey make the All-SAC 1st team. This past year Coursey averaged 12.6 points per game while grabbing five rebounds. He shot 42% from the field, 37% from three, and 70% from the foul line along with being the leader both on and off the court for CHS.

Fellow CHS junior teammates Ethan McLemore and Tyson Fuller rounded out the Athenians making All-Conference as both of them earned spots on the All-SAC 2nd team. Both in their first year of varsity action McLemore scored 7.7 a contest while grabbing 4.1 rebounds and dishing out 2.7 assists a game while also notching 1.8 steals. Fuller provided the Athenians with great perimeter defense as he averaged 6.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and a steal.

In total four Southmont Mounties made the first and second teams. The senior duo of Carson Chadd and EJ Brewer earned All-First team nods. In his final season in a Southmont uniform Chadd was the do-it-all player for the Mounties as he scored 11.5 points per game and crashed the glass with 8.6 rebounds while shooting 54% from the field. Brewer ended his senior campaign scoring 10.1 a contest for the Mounties who went 15-8 on the season and finished third in the SAC. Brewer also grabbed 4.8 rebound and shot 56% from the floor while also guarding the opposing teams best perimeter player.

The junior duo of Trip Ward and Hayden Hess earned All-Second team honors. The sharp-shooting Ward scored 9.8 points for Southmont while hitting 35% of his three-point attempts. Ward was also a very reliable free-throw shooter for the Mounties as he shot 77% from the charity stripe. Hess in his first season of varsity action assumed the point guard duties and averaged 4.1 points per game and dished out 2.8 assists.

North Montgomery sophomore Kelby Harwood was a First-Team All-SAC selection as the Chargers leading scorer notched 11.8 points per game to go along with 4.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists. He shot 42% from the floor and 62% from the line. He ended the season scoring 20 points in the sectional loss to Rensselaer Central.

Both senior Drew Norman and junior Jarrod Kirsch earned spots on the All-SAC second team. Kirsch was also in double figures for the Chargers as the sharp-shooter scored 10.2 points a game and shot a very impressive 93% from the foul line.
