AMC has permanently closed its Crawfordsville 8 theater, the company confirmed Tuesday, following the theater’s temporary closure in August because of mold concerns.
“AMC has made the difficult decision to permanently close AMC CLASSIC Crawfordsville 8,” the company said in a statement.
The theater in the 200 block of Dry Branch Drive was temporarily closed to the public by the Montgomery County Health Department in late August after the department received multiple complaints about conditions inside the theaters.
Health department inspectors inspected the business Aug. 24 and identified visible mold blooms in all theaters at a level determined to be a public health risk, according to the department. An Order to Comply was issued the same day outlining corrective actions required before the theater could reopen.
Health Department Administrator Adrianne Northcutt previously said the property owner had 10 days to address the issues.
The theater is now listed as permanently closed on AMC’s website.
Speculation about the theater being demolished began after the building was boarded up and the Crawfordsville location was removed from AMC’s website.
However, Megan Huckstep, the city’s director of Planning & Building Services, said there have been no permit applications submitted for demolition or improvements to the building.
AMC said theproperty, which sits on 4.6 acres, has been on the market and remains for sale.
“We are grateful to our guests in the Crawfordsville community for their support over the years and to our theatre associates for their dedication and service,” the company said in their statement, adding that employees at the Crawfordsville theater would have the opportunity to transfer to other nearby AMC theaters.
