Anderson commits to Vikings to continue swim career

LINDEN — North Montgomery seniors Sam Sheetz and Annabel Anderson both helped the Chargers over the course of their swim and dive careers. Now both of them will get the opportunity to continue on in college as Sheetz signed to continue his diving career at Indiana Wesleyan while Anderson put the pen to paper and signed with Augustana College.

The sensational swim career of Anderson allowed the senior sprinter to continue the sport she loves most. The 2023-24 JR Girls Swimmer of the Year signed with Division III Augustana College in Illinois. The Viking women are coming off their second College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) title in the last three seasons. Anderson concluded her career with the Chargers this winter by making her fourth straight IHSAA State Finals while swimming in the 50 and 100 freestyle.

“Looking for a college for where I wanted to go wasn’t easy,” Anderson said as she’ll be majoring in pre-vet along with swimming. “When I visited Augustana I knew that’s where I wanted to go. I got to start talking with their coaches about the possibility of swimming and it just felt right.”

While she’s honed in on being the sprinter for the Chargers the last few seasons, Anderson is also very diverse in the events that she can swim. That versatility is something that Yeager knows will benefit her star swimmer at the next level.

“I try and make sure that all of our swimmers are well-rounded when they leave here,” Yeager said. “That’s an added bonus for Annabel as she goes off to Augustana that she’s able to swim in different events. She’s going to be able to compete in a few different events because of what she’s done here.”

With the addition of Anderson and Sheetz getting to continue their swim and dive careers and having Campbell at IWU, the Chargers are beginning to have a steady athletes getting to swim at the next level. Yeager notes how her other swimmers can look and see that they too can swim at the collegiate level.

“It gives are current swimmers someone they know and can reach out to about the whole college process,” she said. “For them to have someone they can trust and rely on is big because making this choice isn’t an easy one.”
