The annual Suicide Prevention Walk will take place Sept. 26 at Milligan Park.

The event is free of charge and open to everyone in the community.

Participants may preregister online at www.mcysb.org. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., with the event starting at 9 a.m.

Walkers are welcome to participate in one lap or walk continuously during the event from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. New to the walk this year, participants are invited to add a photo or note of support or remembrance to a banner at the event. The banner will then be displayed at the Youth Service Bureau for the month of October.

This annual walk brings together individuals, families and community members to honor lives lost, support survivors and raise awareness about suicide prevention and mental health resources. Local community partners and mental health providers will be present at the event to share information, offer support, and connect attendees with available services.

T-shirts will be available on the day of the event on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Suicide Prevention Walk began in 2018, when a group of girls involved with Inspire, who had previously lost a friend to suicide, sought to create something positive in his memory. What started as a small act of remembrance has grown into a community-wide event focused on support, education, and prevention.

Special thanks are extended to our sponsors whose support makes this event possible, including Acuity Indiana Production Facility, Banjo Corporation and the dedicated volunteers at Volunteers in Mental Health of Montgomery County. Your commitment to mental health awareness and community well-being helps ensure this important event continues to grow and serve those in need.

Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend and participate.
