Wire sculpture is the creation of sculpture or jewelry from wire. Metal wire in jewelry dates back to the 2nd Dynasty in Egypt. But it was an American sculptor, Alexander Calder, who in 1927 created art pieces using only wire. Today there is a vast inventory of wire art from many contemporary artists.

Introduce yourself to this medium by making a twisted wire tree in a relaxed enjoyable session at Athens Arts.

Classes are easy and interesting for all levels.

The instructor for the upcoming class will provide all supplies needed for students to create a wire tree which they will take home.

Classes will be on Thursday at 216 E. Main St. Choose either an afternoon session from 1 to 3 p.m. or an evening session from 6 to 8 p.m. Class is open to anyone 12 and older. Cost is $35.

To reserve a spot for the upcoming class, stop by Athens Arts from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today or 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday or call 765-362-7455 during business hours to pay via credit card.

Athens Arts is a not-for-profit offering vibrant opportunities to engage the community in art.
