Crawfordsville volleyball not only picked up a Sagamore Conference win on Tuesday against Frankfort, but it was also a senior night win. CHS defeated Frankfort in four sets (25-18, 25-17, 20-25, 25-22) to send the five Athenian seniors out on a high note. Devan Johnson, Sam Rohr, Addie Hodges, Kaydence Brost, and Emily Powell were all honored before the game and then helped their team to their second straight win.

“I’m really proud of these five girls for their dedication and commitment to the program,” Crawfordsville coach Allison Manwell said. “It wasn’t easy at th e beginning of the year with me being a new coach and having them adapt to a new situation but they’ve stuck with it all season and have been amazing leaders for this team.”

Johnson led the team with nine kills in the win with Katy Grace Whitecotton adding seven and Reese Price having six. Claire Peacock led CHS with 14 digs, Ally Strickland 12, and Rohr 11. Peacock had 16 assists with Strickland chipping in 11 of her own. Johnson also had four aces with Peacock having three.

The senior night win comes on the heels of CHS defeating Clinton Prairie on Monday. Cville improves to 10-19 (2-5 SAC) with the win.

“Monday we had our most kills and are best hitting percentage of the season,” Manwell added. “It really does feel like we’re saving our best volleyball for this point in the season. We’re also playing clean and not having many errors. I’m hoping this is able to carry us into our final game on Thursday and then into sectional play next week.”

The Athenians will close out the regular season with a tough home match against 21-9 Covington on Thursday before having a week off to prepare for their Class 3A Sectional opener at Monrovia where they’ll take on the Sagamore Conference champions in the Western Boone Stars.
