Our thoughts tend to govern our lives. I have Proverbs 23;7 in a plaque on my desk, “For as he thinketh in his heart so is he.” We become what we think about. A person’s life is what their thoughts make of it. British author Jame Allen wrote when speaking of this verse: “You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you.”
The Apostle Paul gave us direction for our thought life: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (Philippians 4:8).
As our thinking impacts our attitude, I would like to share an article written by Charles Swindoll called “Attitude.” He wrote, “The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me is more important than facts.
It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company, a church, a home.
The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past, we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude.
I am convinced that life is 10 % what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you, we are in charge of our attitudes.
So, each morning obey Romans 12:2, “And be not conformed to this world; be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.” Someone said, “Your attitude controls our altitude.” So have a great day.
